Flowers are the most popular Mother’s Day gift — ever. Then chocolate. Then just a card. Followed by the phone call. Yawn …

But you know what your mom really wants? A loft downtown. I’m serious, she told me. I ran into her last night at The Cashew. I see where you get your looks. If I was going to buy my mom a loft (which I am, calm down, Mom) I would buy her one that’s in the middle of it all. Where it’s a short walk to the Performing Arts Center, galleries, restaurants and those boutiquy shops that she loves. I would make sure everything was brand-new, and that she had a terrace with a rock star view of downtown. (Your mom loves rock stars too, she told me.) Don’t worry, you can still buy her those tulips you’ve been eyeing. They’ll look great on her new granite countertops. 

At least act like you’re listening.

You know, do a lot of head nodding, say things like “Wow” and “Amazing,” and in the end, we’ll believe you soaked in every last word we said. Now and then, we’re going to get down to the details of our project. Like the fact that we’ve reworked the floor plans in our combo units a bit. We’ve added a half bath, additional cabinets in the kitchen and given you some more closet space to store those winter clothes you’ll soon be packing away. Break out your bikini.

On Tuesday we got a teasing peek at spring when the temp sprung up to 57 degrees for a few brief hours. The warm weather got us thinking about swimsuit season, which got us sucking in our stomachs and compulsively doing sit-ups. As we exhaled, we began to imagine what summertime would be like at THE BROADWAY — sitting by the pool, hanging out in the open-air terrace and grilling at the outdoor entertaining space. This little respite was almost enough to cure our winter blahs and make us renew our gym memberships. Until Wednesday morning when we stepped outside, and our newspaper was frozen to our dog.

Scrape. Scrape.

It’s gray. It’s cold. You’re a good year and a half away from having a suntan again. You wake up every morning, strap on your ice skates, do a triple salchow across the parking lot and spend the next 30 minutes chipping away at the igloo surrounding your car. Living at THE BROADWAY, you can hang up your skates and retire your scraper, because each space comes with your very own spot in our controlled access under-building parking lot. We can’t make springtime come any faster, but it’s something we’re seriously looking into.
